ECB Executive Board member Piero Cipollone said that the risk of a stagflationary environment remains low despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties. He added that monetary policy needs to remain "well calibrated" as policymakers continue to assess incoming economic data. He also noted that inflation remains far from the ECB adverse and severe scenarios.

Cipollone stressed that there are currently no signs pointing to a stagflation scenario. He added that the risk of stagnation accompanied by a sharp rise in prices is "rather remote".

The comments suggest that he's broadly comfortable with the current inflation outlook and doesn't see a material threat of a renewed inflation shock undermining growth prospects. The ECB commentary has been less hawkish in the past couple of weeks, but the market is still pricing 40 bps of tightening by year-end, with 96% probability of a hike in September.
