Iran says it will halt strikes so long as US pause continues

The Iran war took a turn for the better on the weekend as the US halted strikes after 13 days and Iran said it will maintain a ceasefire so long as the US remains on pause. The developments have raised hopes for peace and that should lead to a negative start in the oil market.

The US didn't advertise the reason for halting strikes but there are reports that it's worried about depeating its interceptor supplies and also that it was running out of targets to strike in Iran.

"He's giving talks some space, he's giving it a little but of room," said US ambassador to the UN on Fox News Sunday.

A report also cites General Dan Caine -- the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who cautioned to Trump on Friday that further attacks would have negative effects on munitions, including interceptors.

On the Iran side, there is skepticism that the pause will last but an Iranian official cited by Reuters said that if the US attacks stop, Iran will halt its operations. He further said that message as conveyed to the United States.

Other reports said Oman is attempting to hold fresh talks and that they're looking for a path where Iran can 'control' the Strait of Hormuz but in a less-restrictive way.

The deputy foreign ministers of Iran and Oman met in Tehran on Friday and Saturday to discuss the management of maritime navigation in Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Telegram

I suspect the pause will lead to a negative start for oil but -- to some extent -- it was priced in on Friday as crude prices dipped. At the same time, the escalation between the Saudis and Houthis is notable as the latter struck major oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
