Germany wholesale prices drop further in June but remain elevated as a whole

  • Prior -0.6%

Wholesale prices in Germany continue to fall again in June, with the annual estimate also easing further to +4.9% - down from +5.9% in May. The year-on-year increase is still notable as it owes to the earlier build up in energy prices and prices for raw materials during the start of the US-Iran conflict.

As for the drop in wholesale prices on the month, the decline owes to a fall in the price of petroleum products. Prices in this category were down by 6.8% in June when compared to the month before.

At the same time, prices in the wholesale trade of non-ferrous ores, metals, and semi-finished metal products also reflected a 2.7% drop in June when compared to May.

That being said, both key categories above are still significantly higher when compared to June last year. The price of petroleum products were still up by 21.7% compared to the same month a year ago and the prices in the wholesale trade of non-ferrous ores, metals, and semi-finished metal products were still up by a whopping 31% compared to June last year.

So, that sort of puts things into perspective when viewing the headline figure.
