Israel’s Netanyahu: Military operations against Hezbollah are not yet over
Israel’s Netanyahu is speaking after his the Security Council meeting and says:
- Military operations against Hezbollah are not yet over.
- The fire on the Iranian front is contained. If they fire again we will respond forcefully
- He calls Hezbollah and Iran weaker than ever, but acknowledges that the struggle is not over
- Says that Iran intended to attack Israel with missiles, and if they had not acted in time, would not be here today.
- Repeats that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.
- Told Trump that Israel has the right to self-defense.
Trump said earlier today said that Israel will accept any agreement that the US and Iran make.
It takes two to tango, but there are three parties that are dancing. That is seemingly making any peace efforts more difficult. The long awaited memorandum of understanding is still not complete.Negotiators on both sides have reached a tentative agreement on the text of a 60-day MOU, but it has not been formally signed. Trump has not yet given his final approval, and Iran’s Supreme Leader has not publicly confirmed acceptance either.
The proposed one-page, 14-point agreement would declare an end to hostilities, commit Iran to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, require Iran to remove all mines from the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days, gradually lift the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and begin a 30-to-60-day formal negotiation period on a final agreement covering Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of US sanctions and frozen Iranian assets.
The key unresolved issues include what happens to Iran’s existing uranium stockpile, the status of Lebanon, the pace of sanctions relief, and Iran’s insistence that the Strait of Hormuz falls under its own sovereignty — pushing back on US language in the draft. Iran’s state media has disputed Trump’s characterization of the deal as largely done.
Trump posted on Truth Social that a broader agreement has been “largely negotiated" and that the Strait would be reopened. VP Vance confirmed progress but said it was still unclear when or if Trump would sign. Both sides indicated over the weekend that a signing announcement could come within days — but the same has been said several times before.
