US stocks close mixed. Dow closes higher. S&P and Nadaq close lower
The major stock indices are closing mixed with the Dow 30 closing higher.The S&P and the Nasdaq indices closed lower..

- S&P index close down -5.45 points or -0.07% at 7403.04
- Nasdaq index close down -134441 points or -0.51% at 26090.73
The small cap Russell 2000 closed lower by -18.19 points or0.65% at 2775.10.
For the Dow 30, a solid day overall for the Dow — 23 of 30 names closed in the green. 3M (+4.32%) was the standout, while energy played a big role with Chevron (+2.63%) benefiting from the ongoing oil spike. On the losing side, Caterpillar (-2.76%) was the biggest drag, with NVIDIA (-1.33%) and Apple (-0.80%) also pulling back on what was broadly a rotation out of tech and industrials into defensives and consumer names.
Nvidia will announce their earnings on Wednesday after the close.
Looking at the broader indices, there was a notable split today — tech and AI infrastructure names dominated the losers with Nebius (-9.13%), Vertiv (-8.41%), and Corning (-6.91%) leading the declines, suggesting a rotation out of AI infrastructure plays. On the winners side, Roblox (+9.64%) was the standout, with healthcare names like Boston Scientific (+6.15%) and Intuitive Surgical (+4.45%) showing strength alongside energy via Shell (+3.78%).
