Iran update: Conflicting messages from Israel. France says they can make the Hormuz safe.
On peace negotiations, reaction from Israel is conflicting:
- Israel was reportedly unaware that the US was nearing a deal with Iran
- had been preparing for an escalation.
- Israel security/military officials reportedly believe negotiations are a waste of time and conveyed to the US a desire to resume attacks on Iran.
- However, in recent hours Israel PM Netanyahu has been holding consultations following the development, and is in contact with the senior government officials.
- Israel claims they are not surprised by the recent developments.
- Netanyahu is holding talks with US officials to discuss and understand the latest developments.
- Netanyahu wants an update on negotiations and to understand what is being discussed.
- Israel is concerned about potential US concessions, particularly the removal of sanctions
- Israel is also concerned that there regional offensives (i.e. Lebanon), might be impacted
Meanwhile:
- France says that they would like the question of Hormuz Strait to be separate in talks between the US and Iran.
- France and its partners are capable of being able to make the Hormuz Strait secure.
We know that Israel is an aggressor and would like to keep the military and economic pressure on Iran and the terrorist organizations in Lebanon until that time they are completely destroyed (no matter the consequences of their actions).
