The US dollar started the day soft but steadily climbed back. The turn came as Bessent spoke and delivered more threats on Iran than actual sanctions and a plan that was lightly throught through. In addition, his comments on the bond market sounded less like someone who wanted a real battle.
USD/CAD was in focus but the pair mostly took the drama in stride. The loonie lagged and that was worsened by falling oil but so far, the war of words hasn't escalated into much. The most-telling detail might have been a comment from VP Vance that negotiations are continuing. When you break down the disagreements, they're not far apart so we will see where it all lands.
