Iran expected to submit revised peace proposal soon – report

CNN cites "sources close to the mediation process" and the report is from a journalist who is in Pakistan.

This is a sign that they're negotiating. There are quick moves in risk assets higher and oil lower on the headline. The caveat here is that leaks from Pakistan and their officials in the past week or two have been way off base.

The report says that mediators in Pakistan are awaiting a revised proposal from Iran to end the war, after Trump rejected an earlier version. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi returned to Tehran from Russia to consult with regime leaders, though the process is slowed by difficulties communicating with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who is in hiding and injured.

Iran's initial proposal sought to end the war first and address nuclear program issues later, which Trump found unacceptable. The outcome now hinges on whether Iran's revised offer better aligns with US demands. Trump also claimed on social media that Iran told the US it is in a "State of Collapse" and wants the Strait of Hormuz to remain open while it sorts out its leadership.

The comment from Trump also indicated that he's listening to proposals and not at the point where he's ready to restart the war.

Iran has just informed us that they are in a “State of Collapse.” They want us to “Open the Hormuz Strait,” as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!). Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

The key line here is "which I believe they will be able to do", which is a signal that he's ready to TACO and negotiate or water down US demands.

A negotiation appears to hinge on what Iran will do with its nuclear material but the travels to Russia may indicate that it's planning to move material there.
